having used the free version of WASP 1 for a while I bought the paid for version. But since the update:
a) I haven’t had much need to use it and
b) When I have I’ve had to give up as it wont crawl or give me any data at all.

There is a few reason why your license is not recognize, you may want to look into the following:

1-Firefox Version need to be 3.5+
2-You need to make sure you firewall is not blocking WASP
3-You may try to restart Firefox
4-You may try to disable all other extension to confirm there is no conflict
